Somehow the wizards at Merck or their original researchers like CSL Ltd. have made the already-impressive Gardasil even more effective.
The new Gardasil-9 protects against even more strains of HPV than before.
The old vaccine protected against 4 varieties & had a 97% prevention rate. And those 4 strains covered 70% of all potentially-lethal HPV.
Mystifyingly, even though it covers more than twice as many strains, the new one somehow has about the same rate! of effectiveness. -Almost 100% in non-pre-infected subjects.
But also since it covers so many more strains than before, it now has an HPV coverage of 85-90% of all known potentially-cancerous origin-species.
Just as before, one of the most important factors for a protective outcome is for women to get vaccinated as soon as possible, even as early as age 11.
Unfortunately for the rest of humanity, only 5% of all total cancers are related to HPV.
So while Gardasil may be onto something extremely important in the realm of STDs and their complications, the greater disease still requires dizzying amounts of R&D.
