I’d write more about it here, but the article is positively exhaustive; though not in the “80-page-Journal-Abstract-Reading” sense of scientific overload.
Lisa spins her phonebook over at New York Magazine not about the brainy specifics, but more about the general presence & consequences of the bio-tech that makes pregnancy a tantalizing-but-iffy possibility for women at/over 50, or even past Menopause. Thankfully, she makes sure not to portray it as the geopolitical slam-dunk of fairytales and unilateral success.
Some of the ultimate benefits include a much better educated and intelligent child, due to the higher-than-average amount of resources and parenting-time focused on it by the very deliberate, and wealthy, new parents. -Very similar to what Malcolm Gladwell calls the “Concerted Cultivation” parenting style in his book, “Outliers”.
On the Snake-Eyes side of things, the minuses include the, “Just because you Can do something, doesn’t mean you Should”-variety of systemic-stress and age/BioClock-induced risks, such as cardiovascular events of every stripe for the middle-aged Mom, and skyrocketing probability of all possible complications and neo-natal afflictions you could imagine for the child.
Definitely worth a read for those interested.
The only downside for You? -You will be older than Larry King by the time you finish it.
