First it was our old friend Vioxx that caused about 140,000 heart attacks in the early 2000s.
As a result, the FDA began warning people about the risk of heart attack and stroke with this class of meds as far back as 2005.
Still further, it seems biotech researchers suspected those risks for as-long-as 15 years; at least in high-dose cases.
Well Now: The FDA is putting its foot down still further and ramping up warnings on even garden variety…
A new meta-analysis review of the 70s-80s low-fat-diet recommendations of The McGovern Report is out.
And the controversial Zoe Harcombe’s team concludes the science behind the report was so undercooked and incomplete as to be false.
So because of that, they suggest the floodgates on high-fat diets have been opened, and it’s: F*** The Fettuccine, Full Butter Ahead!
-Or so it would seem…
This whole thing seems more like a Technical Doctor’s Note more than anything for civilians.
Because, you can now officially worry less about Cholesterol in your food.
But if it comes in food full of Saturated Fats, or Trans-Fats (which it usually does),
-You’re probably going to get more Cholesterol in your blood (and thus a higher risk for heart-disease) anyway?

So two years ago Stanley Hazen published a paper saying the compound TMAO is linked to heart disease.
When mice were fed more of it, their risk for atherosclerosis went up.
It turns out the stuff is created when gut bacteria break down some foods.
So in a new study, Stanley makes this mental leap: Red Meat is something people eat, passes through the gut, and is associated with heart disease.
-Maybe there’s something in there that gets turned into that TMAO from 2 years ago?…
