According to a recent study, gum can actually improve your concentration and performance on intensive thinking tasks.
Bad news? -It only lasts for 20 minutes at a time.
It seems as if the studiers didn’t think of trying to replicate the performance-bump with 20 minutes of chewing every 1,2,3, etc. hours to see what the smallest-recovery-interval could be.
-Maybe you could get a similar bump every 2.5 hours?
