The first Chinese product safety concerns many of us had might have been the creeping-anxiety of, “Was that actually chicken I just ate?”
Now it’s “Soylent Green iz Melamine!”
Have a little Ersatz Protein & Antifreeze with that Toothpaste, Chicken, Pork, Domestic Pet, “Wild” Salmon, etc.
Race Ya To The Bottom! -bets on who gets there first, Walmart or China.
At least you won’t freeze solid in winter, overheat in summer, or hold permanent marker stains from the frat initiation rituals.
Chinese products may be unsafe purely because agencies like the FDA or CPSC can’t or don’t test them.
So not only is so much of the stuff the FDA can’t inspect getting-through, but in many cases the melamine-poisoned-dog is now biting its own tail.
-An increasing number of these products are now sourced Overwhelmingly from China because their costs are so low and our manufacturers’ are just too damn high.
So we’re reduced to a seemingly-endless shouting-match, where our inspectors and regulators complain to foreign authorities that would allow these nutbar contaminations to go forth in the first place.
The price is too low for Chinese manufacturers to care about product safety, or even comply with mandatory recalls.
Not only that, but many times a shipment is rejected and returned, the Chinese manufacturers just send it right back to us and it ends up in quarantine all over again.
So watch out, stay vigilant, and check the sources for food & products you put on or in your body, or your favorite furry friend.
… -And maybe pay a little bit more for quality.
Perhaps a whole country voting with its wallet is more powerful than any government regulator or inspector…
