Psychology Sees The Light:
So one of the more recent discoveries in psychology is similar to one admission by the evil DrugCo. CEO played by Roger Horton in a previous entry:
If you live far from the equator, the seasons change your mood; sometimes too much.
One of the ways to fix this is to bring back the sunlight with a very special light-box.
It’s so effective, that the light is said to be as good as CBT for people affected.
Well that boost in mood got some crafty Italian researchers thinking; and they just might put Pfizer out of business…
If It Works For 1 Hormone, Then Maybe…:
So their reasoning was that if at least one or two hormones were being boosted by this light, what if others could be too? -Or even as a result of the boost in the others?
Well, Dr. Andrea Fagiolini found the only 38 men in all of Italy with low sex-drive problems and ran an experiment on them.
He took the same 10,000 Lux light-box (equivalent to about 10 100 Watt light bulbs 3 feet away) they use to cure people of SAD and did a very similar treatment on the subjects. They got 30 minutes of it, first thing in the morning for about 2 weeks.
The control group got a normal to low amount of light for the same time.
After the administration period, the results were pretty clear.
300% More Mojo!:
The men who got the light-blast reported a 300% Increase in their sex-lives.
And it wasn’t just subective.
When the blood-tests came back, it was clear they had an increase of 50% in their circulating blood-testosterone. [simpler?]
Again, the placebo group did not fare as well, and showed the same amount of testosterone as before.
The great part of this is it’s basically a fix without side-effects.
Sure As Hell Beats The Alternative Treatments!:
-Especially since the alternatives start at anti-depressant meds and get much more serious from there. Perhaps, even toward injections of testosterone, or some other type of hormonal cocktail.
And the potential audience is huge. At least 30% of Men and 40+% of Women experience some form of sexual dysfunction. Especially the guys over 40 who haven’t taken a gander at Eva Green’s hips.
Also for the women out there who aren’t looking at Eva, light therapy has even been shown to trigger ovulation! in some studies. So, it’s working for women’s hormones, too. (but go ahead & check out Eva anyway)
Not Yet Officially-Approved But Appears Safe:
As with many research studies, the methods have not yet been approved; even though there are very few reasons why they wouldn’t be. The only impediments being light sensitivity or medications that increase it, and people who have certain problems with their eyes.
Otherwise, it kinda looks like Turn On The Lights! Release The Hounds!
